Genshin Impact is gorgeous, and that beauty runs your battery down like nothing else on your phone. A few honest tweaks can add real hours without wrecking how the game looks.

Start With Graphics Settings — This Is Where the Heat Comes From
Genshin’s most demanding setting is frame rate. On phones that support 60 FPS, the game renders twice as many frames per second, which roughly doubles GPU load and the heat that comes with it. Dropping to 30 FPS is the single biggest battery win you can make, and honestly, for exploration and daily commissions the difference is barely noticeable. Save 60 FPS for Spiral Abyss or tough bosses where dodge timing actually matters.
After frame rate, Render Resolution is the setting that quietly murders your battery. It defaults to around 1.0x–1.2x depending on your device, and every step up means more pixels the GPU has to draw. Set it to 0.8x — text stays readable, characters still look sharp, and you shave a real chunk off power draw. Pair that with Anti-Aliasing on SMAA instead of TAA, which is lighter on the hardware.
Turn Motion Blur off. It does nothing for battery-conscious play except add GPU work and, for a lot of people, mild nausea during fast camera swings. Then drop Visual Effects and Environment Detail from High to Medium. Fontaine and Sumeru are packed with dense foliage, water reflections, and particle effects — the regions where phones overheat first — and Medium settings there cut the load without making the world look flat.
If you want a shortcut, just select the Medium preset, then manually lower Render Resolution and switch off Motion Blur. Skip “Highest,” which is built for flagship devices plugged into a wall. A tuned Medium loadout looks about 90% as good as maxed settings and can stretch a session by a noticeable margin.
Your Screen Is a Bigger Battery Hog Than You Think
Your display is often the largest single power drain on the whole device, and Genshin makes it worse by pushing you to crank brightness so you can see enemies in dark domains. Knock brightness down to the lowest level you can comfortably play at, and turn off auto-brightness while you play — the sensor constantly readjusting wastes power and yanks the screen to full brightness the second sunlight hits it.
If you own a phone with a 90Hz or 120Hz display, that high refresh rate costs battery even though Genshin caps out at 60 FPS. Many phones let you lock the screen to 60Hz in system display settings, and doing so removes power the panel is spending for zero in-game benefit. Some gaming phones expose this per-app, so you can keep 120Hz everywhere else and force 60Hz just for Genshin.
Small screen habits stack up too. Shorten your screen timeout so an idle menu doesn’t sit lit while you grab a drink. If your phone has an OLED panel, the game’s darker areas actually sip less power than bright open fields — but that’s not an excuse to camp in Enkanomiya all day. The point is that brightness, not scenery, is the lever you control.
Resist the urge to play at max brightness “just to be safe.” Genshin’s UI and combat readouts are high-contrast by design, so a mid-low setting is almost always enough indoors. The difference between 100% and roughly 50% brightness over a long session is dramatic — often larger than any single graphics tweak you’ll make.
Manage Heat, Because Heat Is the Real Enemy
Here’s the thing most guides miss: battery drain and heat feed each other. When your phone gets hot, it thermal-throttles — the chip slows itself to protect the hardware — and a throttled phone works harder and less efficiently to render the same scene, burning more battery for worse performance. Keeping the device cool is genuinely one of the best things you can do for runtime.
Take the case off before a long session. Cases trap heat against the back of the phone, right where the processor sits. Playing on a hard, cool surface instead of a blanket or your lap also helps the heat escape. If you play a lot, a cheap clip-on cooling fan — even the passive ones cost very little — keeps the chip out of throttle territory and, as a side effect, steadies your battery drain.
Do not charge while you play if you can avoid it. Charging generates its own heat, and stacking that on top of Genshin’s load bakes the battery — which both drains oddly and degrades the battery’s long-term health, so it holds less charge months down the line. If you must charge, quit the game, or at least drop to 30 FPS and Low settings to keep temperatures sane.
Ambient temperature matters more than people expect. Playing outside in summer or in a hot car will melt your runtime no matter how carefully you’ve tuned the settings. A cool room, decent airflow, and short breaks to let the phone recover will do more for a marathon session than any single toggle in the graphics menu.
Trim the Background Stuff Draining Power Behind the Scenes
Genshin is heavy on its own, so anything running alongside it is stealing power you’d rather spend on Teyvat. Before a session, close background apps — especially other games, video, and anything doing location tracking. On Android, most phones have a built-in Game Mode or Game Booster that suspends background processes and blocks notifications while you play; turn it on and point it at Genshin.
Kill the radios you’re not using. It may lock you out of 60 FPS, but if you’ve already decided 30 FPS is fine for daily play, Battery Saver plus your tuned graphics is a strong combination for squeezing out the last stretch of a low-battery session.
One thing worth checking in Genshin’s own settings: the game streams voice-over and resource packs in the background. Grab the full download over Wi-Fi ahead of time so it isn’t pulling assets mid-session, which causes little CPU and network spikes that add up. A fully pre-downloaded game runs smoother and, marginally, cooler.
Play Smarter: Session Habits That Stretch Every Percent
How you play changes how fast you drain. Batch your daily routine — knock out all four commissions, spend your resin, and claim rewards in one focused run instead of opening the app ten times a day. Every launch spins the game engine back up from cold, and those repeated startups cost more battery than one longer, planned session.
Be aware that co-op is more expensive than solo play. Rendering other players’ characters, their weapon glows, and their elemental effects adds real GPU load, and there’s a specific “Co-Op Teammate Effects” toggle in graphics settings you can lower. If your battery is tight, farming bosses solo or doing your dailies alone will stretch your charge further than a four-player domain run.
Keep the game updated. HoYoverse regularly ships optimization passes, and newer versions often run more efficiently on the same hardware than the build you installed months ago. It sounds trivial, but skipping updates means missing performance fixes that directly affect heat and battery — the game on your phone today may simply be less power-hungry once patched.
Finally, plan your exploration. Teleporting straight to an objective instead of sprinting across half a region, using the map to route efficiently, and cutting the aimless open-world wandering all mean fewer minutes of the GPU rendering dense scenery. None of this is about playing less — it’s about making sure the battery you spend goes toward progress you actually wanted.
